TOP QUESTIONS FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, you’re going to want to know more about that person and how they work. While I’m conscious that a lot of these are covered in my FAQs page - I wanted to cover these off again, as they are important. I’ve outlined below the 10 most common questions that people have for their wedding photographer - and have answered these for me and my business. You might be surprised at some of the questions or the answers!

#1 - WHO WILL BE TAKING MY PHOTOGRAPHS?

IT’S ME! I love meeting all my potential brides for an easy going coffee/tea/beer/wine date where you can tell me all about how you met, how the proposal happened (did they get down on one knee?) and any plans you might have made for your wedding! Decisions don’t need to be made right away about your wedding photographer - I’ll be the first to admit that it’s a big decision and there are lots to consider. Your chosen photographer will typically be spending more time with the bride on her wedding day than she will with the groom! It’s important that we’re a good match, and that you trust me. To build this trust and help us become more familiar with each other I always suggest we have an engagement session. I include these in my wedding packages (FYI). At our engagement session, we will spend about an hour together. These little sessions are a good insight into how I work.  I always have so much fun on these sessions, just wait and see. The engagement session ensures that both you and your other half are comfortable with me and how I work, and makes the wedding day go more smoothly. Through the whole process, we will stay in touch. So, when you have any questions, I’m only an email/text/phone call away!

#2 - HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SHOOTING WEDDINGS?

I shot my first solo wedding in the summer of 2018, and have gone full steam ahead since then. I’m now actively photographing couples and weddings as well as scheduling as far in advance as the fall of 2021! I’ve assisted a few different photographers at this point, by capturing images from a different perspective to their own.

I should also note that I think it’s incredibly important to continue to learn and grow in whatever craft we have. I invest in my education and ensure I stay up to date on current practices. This helps me serve you better and lets me stay ahead of the curve so your images remain timeless and priceless.

#3 - IS THERE A WAY YOU WOULD DESCRIBE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE?

I am in love with brighter, lighter colours and I really try to capture that in my photography and through my editing. This world we live in is really gorgeous, and I love the colours people incorporate into their weddings so I think we should celebrate that and really highlight it. I love soft light and that ever fleeting golden hour of the night. I always try to capture that in my photography by helping you choose the time and location for engagement sessions, and at your wedding by guiding you to the right location and pose to create the light but still vibrant images that I love.

#4 - HOW DO YOU WORK?

I like to think of myself as one of those introverted extroverts. I love meeting new people and love keeping those new people close. I always treat my clients like my friends (and more often than not we become friends). I love forming lasting relationships with my clients and still speak to them even now - months and years down the line. Where the need presents itself, I focus on being efficient. Wedding days go by so quickly, so sometimes you need to be an efficient worker when squeezing in the first look, the family sessions while the kids are still engaged in the photography process, and when it’s not so warm outside and we need to ensure to move move move to keep warm. I love creating poses that look and feel natural and always strive to capture these moments for you.

#5 - DO YOU SHOOT DIGITALLY AND HOW DO I GET MY PHOTOS?

I shoot digital, this modern age we’re in, and you should know I’m a Nikon girl! I’ve shot with Canon, but Nikon is where my heart lays.

Much like the digital camera I shoot with, I also deliver my photos digitally. You will get your own online gallery that you can share with your friends and family and it comes with a pin to allow you to download those photos as many times as you want. If you want, photos can also be delivered via USB - but lately, I’ve found that the digital download is what people mostly want.

#6 - WHAT DO I GET IF I BOOK YOU?

Well, that depends on what you need. Each wedding is unique, so I work with you to build up a package that suits your needs. Whether you want me there all day (from getting the makeup done to the time you’ve done your first dance) or just want me there for the ceremony and party. It’s up to you.

My most popular package is the all-day coverage package. This means that I arrive in the morning just as you’re getting your make up done, so I can capture you and your party as you’re getting ready for such a momentous day. It also means I’m there with you until the party really gets going - I tend to leave before everyone gets so merry they won’t want their picture taken anymore. If need be, I can also arrange for a second shooter to meet your other half and their buddies and will be there to assist all day, capturing your first look (if you have one), and helping me speed through family portrait time.

As mentioned above - you get all your photos on your own unique online gallery so you can download them. I don’t like to put an exact number on how many you’ll get, but I generally guess to say I deliver 50-70 pictures per hour I’m there (it’s a lot…trust me).

#7 - I HAVE A SHOT LIST, WILL YOU USE IT?

I actually have more CREATIVE and UNIQUE work when I’m not working off of a list! You’ll also be more relaxed if you’re not worried about capturing the specific pictures you have on your list. The pictures and poses that you want are likely the ones that I love doing already and have in my repertoire, and I work hard to find the poses that will work the best for the both of you. I do, however,  have a comprehensive and wonderful Questionnaire that I send before your wedding day. It’s in this that I ask about some of the more specific and unique shots that you might be looking for that might deviate from the normal shots on a wedding day! For example, if you’ve got any special unique details that you’ve added (such as matching shoes or special charms on your bouquet) those are details that I love having in advance to make sure I capture these!

#8 - ARE YOU GOING TO BLOG ABOUT OUR BIG DAY?

UMMM….YES! My main aim is to deliver the BEST pictures I can to you as SOON as I can. I never want to compromise on quality for the speed of getting the pictures. I always send a sneak peek to you 24-48 hours after your wedding so that you have something to enjoy on your honeymoon.

#9 - OKAY..BUT HOW LONG AFTER THE WEDDING DO I HAVE TO WAIT TO GET MY PICTURES?

Within a month, usually 2-3 weeks! As I said above, I want to make sure you’re getting the very best from your gallery, but I want to do it in a timely manner. I want you to be happy with your pictures, and be so pleased that you get to blow them up and print them off! I meticulously go through the entire days' pictures and only pick out the best to edit and send to you.

#10 - SO THE IMAGES ARE ONLINE - BUT FOR HOW LONG?

Your images will be accessible via a secure link to an online gallery on Pixieset. This gallery is very user-friendly and super easy to share. I email the link to you which will contain the direct link to your gallery as well as a four digit pin which you’ll need to use to download the images. You can share the link and pin with your entire family and all your friends, and they can download the pictures too. There’s no limit. I keep the images up on the online gallery for up to a year, and then they are taken off the online link. Don’t worry though - I have a hard drive that I keep the images all backed up to, so if you need them back up - just let me know!

Fewf! That was a lot of questions - but I’m sure you’ll have more. If you do - that’s a-okay! Just let me know what they are and I would be more than happy to help!
